Yes! That’s exactly what Targhil was designed for. Each story is presented in both English and Lebanese Arabic, with Lebanese also written phonetically in English letters. No! Every Lebanese sentence is written phonetically using English letters (transliteration), so you can read it aloud even if you don’t know the Arabic alphabet. We chose this format because many Lebanese families speak the language but never learned to read Arabic script, or feel more comfortable reading English. It makes the books accessible while preserving the spoken Lebanese language.

Our books use everyday Lebanese Arabic, the language Lebanese families naturally speak at home, not formal Modern Standard Arabic.

To make the books as natural and authentic as possible, the Arabic script follows Lebanese pronunciation rather than formal MSA spelling. We also omit Arabic diacritics (vowel marks) except where essential, helping the text reflect how Lebanese is actually spoken.
